Meditation is the most important key in Christian growth.

This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night… Joshua 1:8

The Art of Christian Meditation

Meditation is a very important key in Christian growth. Unfortunately, many Christians have a very distorted perception of meditation. This is because the world has exhibited a very  different approach to the subject.

In general worldly usage, the word ‘Meditation’ speaks of silently thinking upon anything. But from a study of the Bible, there is a clear teaching that the art of meditation is not necessarily silent. The Hebrew word that is mostly used for meditation is the word ‘hagah’ which literally means ‘speak aloud.’ This is the word used in two of the most famous biblical scriptures where the word meditate is mentioned:

1, This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. Joshua 1:8; 2, Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful; But his delight is in the law of the Lord and in His law he meditates day and night. Psalm 1:1-2 From the above scriptures, it can be noted that meditation does involve the use of the mouth to utter or speak aloud God’s Word.

There are two fundamental aspects of meditation; by Confession and by Contemplation. The first part of meditation is the Confession of God’s Word. The second is the contemplation of God’s Word. Within the first part of meditation are two sub-parts: the confession of God’s Word to get it into our spirits and the speaking of God’s Word out from our spirits as a decree or command over circumstances. Both are the speaking of God’s Word but the effect is different. The speaking of God’s Word is first to implant the Word into the fertile ground of our spirits. Later the implanted Word spoken from a Word rich spirit takes dominion through our lives over the circumstances around us.

But the word must first be implanted into our spirits in order for it to take root and rule over our lives and circumnstances. That is where scripture memorization comes in. Col 3:16 ; Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, …. There is no better way for the word of God to truly take root in your spirit man than through Holy Spirit aided Memorization and Meditation.  Such a discipline brings you into oneness with the Spirit of the Lord.

As the Holy Spirit helps you to meditate daily upon the memorized word, You are gradually transformed into the image of the Son of God and Christ is fully formed in you. “But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.” 2 Cor 3:18

So as you can see, Meditating upon the Holy Word of God will satisfactorily enhance your christian walk to the glory of God the Father. I pray that the Spirit of God Almighty will impart unto you today the art of consistent Biblical meditation in Jesus matchless Name, amen.
